Outline

  1. Our team was humming along on messaging – steadily growing after overcoming some challenges

  2. Then we got re-org’d and our priorities changed

  3. Understand: I led the effort find our fit into the new organization – aligning our goals and objectives to the new PA’s OKRs.

  4. Discovery: Began by bringing together 2 overlapping teams and knowledge from within the new org + Designing the sprint and program to help highlight areas where we can add value and develop new ideas.

Summary

I served as the sole IXD for marketplaces comms (30+ Eng), dring end-to-end UX vision for all features and launches, including bringing Calls, Messaging, and Photos to 13m+ users across Search and Maps (previously supported by 4 other UXDs). These multi-surface launches required working xPA, xFN, and alongside legal to facilitate merchant to consumer connections on Google’s Billion+ user products.

 

The challenge

When the Marketplaces Communications’ team  shifted from Geo to Commerce, and from a platform team to one that enables delightful verticalized experiences, the team’s strategy need to be revamped with a new vision in place to to define the future of communications in commerce.
